Munich, 11 January 2011. Following the extension of the rights contract with Formula One on 16 December, Sky is offering motorsport fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland something else to look forward to: In the upcoming season, Formula One will be produced in native HD for the first time ever. Sky will broadcast all 20 race weekends of the 2011 season live and in True HD.

Brian Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of Sky Deutschland AG: “Like millions of auto racing fans across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, we have long hoped for Formula One in True HD. This is a great expansion of Sky’s market leading HD service, which will allow Sky subscribers to enjoy the best coverage of top motorsport action without commercial interruption, in a quality never before seen. Formula One in True HD on Sky is another step in our effort to offer the customer the best television experience possible.”

Fans will have their first chance to enjoy the best video quality in the history of Formula One broadcasting during the Bahrain Grand Prix, which will take place from March 11-13. And, with the Sky Sport App now available in HD, Sky subscribers can also follow Formula One in brilliant HD quality when they’re away from home.

Sky will announce detailed information on the editorial scope of the coverage as a part of a press conference before the start of the new season.

With a total of twelve channels covering various genres, Sky offers the most comprehensive HDTV service in Germany and Austria, including four exclusive HD sport channels - Sport HD 1, Sky Sport HD 2, ESPN America HD and Eurosport HD – as well as Germany’s only HD 3D channel, Sky 3D, which was launched in October 2010.
